Mrs. Cheryl Gentry To All Instructors

I have been married to Geoff since 2001 and homeschooling my 3 children since 2009. We were compelled to homeschool because of our desire to keep family life central to our children. It continues to be an amazing journey as we trust the Lord’s plan.

Prior to becoming a mother, I was the Assistant Director of Fitness at DePaul University’s Campus Recreation. I’ve had the opportunity to teach at the college level at both the University of Georgia and DePaul University and for adults with the American Council on Exercise. My Master’s of Education in Exercise Science was the cumulation of my love for teaching and interest in health and wellness. I have taught group exercise classes in some shape and form since 1990.

Our homeschool path has taken us through small family science & book clubs, unit studies and a previous co-op, before coming to Heritage in 2018. I have always enjoyed leading classes and building a community of homeschool families.

As a former junior high mathalete, I view math as a game to play and finding solutions is fun. I enjoy puzzles in my free time. I appreciate that while there is often only one correct answer to a math problem, there can be several ways to approach the task. I encourage children to view numbers and math skills in a way that makes sense to them.

Currently, I lead small groups of 1st-3rd grade students with our church’s Sunday school program. I have also been teaching musical theater and drama classes for 6-12 year olds with CYT-McHenry. I enjoy the enthusiasm and heart of these age groups. I’m looking forward to serving my Heritage community.
